In response to the public's growing concern about the effects of global warming, Aquila launched THE POWER OF TREES.
This is a community-focused program the brings together Aquila employee and community volunteers in an activists effort to reduce global warming.
Experts know that trees do more than just beautify a yard or community. Specifically, trees consume carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the key contributors to global warming. No one expects one tree, or even hundreds of new trees, to solve global warming. However, all trees consume CO2 as they grow. Over its lifetime the average tree absorbs about a ton of CO2, which is the same amount saved in a year when someone switches to driving a hybrid car.
In addition, when placed correctly, trees shade and cool homes and businesses, thus reducing energy consumption and thus global warming, too.
