Interim Rate Increase For Nebraska

In accordance with Nebraska statutes, interim rates will be implemented Feb.15 for the rate increase request Aquila filed with the Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC) in Nov. 2006. If the interim rates are higher than final rates approved by the PSC, the difference plus interest will be refunded or credited to customers.

Aquila has invested more than $42 million in its Nebraska gas delivery system and improvements in technology since its previous rate increase was filed in 2002. Like other businesses, Aquila has experienced increased operating costs for labor, materials, health care and fuel.

The typical residential or commercial bill will increase by approximately $7 per month. The $16.3 million request is 7 percent of Aquila's total annual revenue. A message advising customers of the interim rates will be printed on customer bills beginning Jan. 15.

Aquila also is proposing an increase in the company's efforts to inform and assist customers in taking energy conservation measures. The proposed measures would include weatherization programs and rebates for installing high-efficiency, natural gas fueled equipment.

The PSC has up to 240 days from the date of filing to analyze the application.
